We regularly enter our wines in prestigious competitions to confirm that we are on the right track and that our wines can hold their own against both domestic and international competition. This category confirms that we are succeeding. Thanks to consistently outstanding results, our winery has repeatedly won the Best Winery title at the Prague Wine Trophy (2021, 2022, and 2023).
Inspiration for the Undecided:
This perfectly ripened wine, made from grapes grown in the Dunajovský kopec vineyard, was aged in oak barrels until August of this year and is now freshly available by the bottle. It impressed the judges at the Prague Wine Trophy and earned the highest possible award, PWT Premium Gold. You can order it right here or through our retail partners.
Welschriesling sur-lie 2023, late harvest
Our winery’s top wine, which has “rested on the lees.” Our Adriana loves the phrase “sleeping under the covers” used to describe these wines, which poetically captures the fact that, with the sur-lie method, the wine rests on yeast lees—imaginary “pillows.” We’re all on board, and we’re swapping the lees for a comforter. Beautiful!
Sur-lie (pronounced "sür ly") is a technique for aging wine on fine lees. The wine is left on the yeast (or lees) for a certain period of time. After the yeast converts sugar into alcohol, it breaks down and sinks to the bottom. The wine is first racked off the coarse lees; the fine lees remain, and the wine continues to age on them while being stirred regularly. The resulting wine becomes more aromatic, fuller-bodied, and more complex. The magic lies in how often it is stirred.
The wine was then aged in an oak barrel for just under 11 months, and we are now pleased to present it to you in perfect condition. Further aging in the bottle will only improve it, so if you can resist opening it right away, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how beautifully it ages.
The judges at the Prague Wine Trophy tasted it while it was still young, and even so, it received the highest possible award, the PWT Premium Gold. You can order it right here or from our business partners.
