Tramínovice

Tramínovice, or our “Dunajovice grappa.” Why did we decide to make it? Our wine-tasting journeys often take us across the border. So why not try making a brandy when we have the ingredients? And that’s how our Tramínovice came to be. Smooth, fruity, and aromatic.

As mentioned earlier, our Tramínovica was inspired by Italian grappa—a wine spirit that has its roots in the land of wine and fine food. It originated as a drink of the poor, because winemakers would give workers the leftovers from the wine-pressing process, and the workers found a way to make use of them.

Today, we can say that this is actually a perfect ZERO WASTE product. That’s because it’s made by distilling pomace—the residue left over after pressing grapes (stems, stalks, and skins). In this case, sustainable and eco-friendly practices turn wine waste into a distillate that’s especially enjoyable as a digestif after a good meal. Zero-waste farming has never tasted so good!

How should you serve Tramínovici? You’ll enjoy it best in a tall, narrow glass with a slightly flared rim, such as a brandy glass. You can also use any other stemmed glass. However, always pour only a small amount—no more than one-third full (for a small glass)—so you can take a whiff and let the aroma enchant you. Tramínovici practically begs for it.

The general recommendation is to serve it at 8–12 degrees. As a rule, the warmer you drink it, the more pronounced its aroma will be. So don’t let the rules hold you back—find the temperature that’s right for you.

Mixed drinks and Tramínovice deserve a chapter of their own. How about a Moravian mojito? On a hot summer day, try a Frozen Margarita—forget the tequila, use our Tramínovice instead, add some fresh, ripe fruit or fruit pulp and crushed ice, and you’ll be the king of mixology! And in a winter like this one, treat yourself to Italian “corrected coffee,” or caffè corretto. You can add grappa directly to the espresso or serve it in a separate glass so everyone can mix it to their own liking. Connoisseurs are said to rinse the empty coffee cup with a drop of grappa to conclude this coffee-and-wine ritual.
